GIMME A GUMMO OFFICE

Cupboards and tables and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite flings

Marktplaats and second hand poodles
Doorknobs and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Kringloop that sell the moon and weird things
These are a few of my favorite flings

Girls in black dresses, white masks against splashes
Paint that stays on their nose and eyelashes
Black from what melts into things
These are a few of their favorite flings

Then there's spraypaint
And the guys sing
When I'm feeling had
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel bad

Watch that film now
And be amazed

RAFAEL LOZANO-HEMMER

I was struck by the works of artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer. You can browse his website and see so many interesting ideas  / photos / films. There is enough for everybody. Some things will remind you of Eliason, some of Abramovich. But it's more this time captured then looking like.

Lozano's Website
Here are some of his videos:

It also reminded me of an interview by Chris Dercon in Dutch Newspaper NRC [5-3-2012] where he makes a statement about the enormous lust for participation, visitor's of museums have nowadays. There is a link, but only available for subscribers of NRC

Quote: 'De Tate biedt een vorm van troost' Volgens Chris Dercon, directeur van Tate Modern, is de nieuwe museumbezoeker geen consument meer maar deelnemer. Er is een enorme zucht naar participatie ...

GARDENING [6] DEREK JARMAN DUNGENESS

Derek Jarman (1942-1994) was an English film director who made a famous garden on the shingle shore near Dungeness nuclear power station. The barren grounds on which he planted his garden was always under attack of the sea winds. So he went with the flow...

AUSTIN KLEON

Austin Kleon is a poet.

Watch his site www.austinkleon.com and permanently new work on his blog.

There's also a revealing review of his book [and more] on YouTube.

DEBT & TETRIS = DEBTRIS

Visualising the UK's national debt: David McCandless updates Tetris for the recession.

Visualizing something we all think about some moment of the day, can be rather scary... Yes we know, but all those naughts, don't make it easy ot comprehend. Well, for me this film visualizes but the dept of our depths... it goes much to fast...

This is brought to you by my favorite website: information is beautiful

There is also an US version.... Waiting for a Greek one.

And then [august 1 / 11] I found this: The Truth About the Economy

CLEARLY VISIBLE CLAIRE DE LUNE

Music to look at:

Either like this...

Or like this:

Or in an orchestral version, made by Stokowski.

It could end up in a Fantasia and being left out...

Or even end up in the Fellini movie "E Le Nave Va..."

SNOW BY TOKUIJN YOSHIOKA

Tokujin Yoshioka, the man that designed the fabulous Hermès window display december 2009 [see previous post] did an installation september 2010 [both in Tokyo] called SNOW. Rather appropiate these days... It was a feather snowscape, build up in a 15-metre wide glass space. The dynamic installation was made to move by visitors passing by and was part of the Sensing Nature exhibition at Tokyo's Mori Art Museum.

HOW TIME LAPSES

Natalie's parents decided at birth, like any new parents, to take a lot of pictures of their daughter. But where most parents desire to record daily how their child grows up, waines after a few weeks, they kept up with it for ten years, every day.
Finally they put all these pictures in, what they call
"stop motion human growth". This gives a pretty cool overview of Nathalie growing up.

NARCISSUS

This little bewildering piece of film already left quite some of my friends in awe...
It rumbles through your mind...
What do we see?
Is this what we see?
Is it what we want to see?
What does the actor want us to see?
Does he want us to see this?

I [honestly] did not know James Franco, so I did my googling and first of all found quite some articles about him; putting the G question... Is he, is he not? To tell the truth, this film gives an answer. To put it bluntly, he loves himself. We see a boy leaning over in a pond, staring at his reflection and falling in love... The fascination comes from the privilege presented to us, to be able to witness this...

For meeting Narcissus.... Watch: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010/12/12/magazine/14actors.html#2

EAMES & EAMES X 10 : 10

Sure we have seen it all and it was already awsome in its days. But nevertheless let's take another look and appreciate what the Eameses did for us. At the speed light up and down again. Times ten or divided by it... Here goes.
